Chatbot
Software that simulates conversation with a user via text or voice.
A chatbot is any software designed to converse with humans. There are two broad families: rule-based bots (decision trees with scripted answers) and AI chatbots (powered by large language models that understand intent and generate responses).
Rule-based bots break the moment a user phrases a question differently than expected. AI chatbots understand variations, typos, multi-language input, and follow-up questions, making them dramatically more useful in production.
The term 'chatbot' is sometimes used interchangeably with 'AI agent', but technically an agent is a chatbot with the ability to take actions, not just talk.
